Residency: Greenland Caves Project

Our team is planning to develop educational films in Greenlandic to introduce Greenlanders to the scientific work achieved in caves.

In the past decade, a team of researchers have been working on the Greenland Caves Project. Our aim is to use mineral deposits found in caves in North Greenland to learn about how Greenland’s climate and environment has changed in the past (geological timescales). There have been four expeditions to date, and in addition to the scientific research, much of the expedition includes first time exploration and documentation of the caves. For the 2023 expedition, we approached multiple research institutions within Greenland with the aim of bringing Greenlandic nationals onto the expedition.

We want to build a Greenlandic caving community, so that cave exploration and cave science can be led by Greenlandic nationals in the future.
