Ann, Nikki and Luca held a workshop with the school, where they dived into the magical world of the sea—a world and the life within it that have helped shape the coastal culture we have along our shores today. A sea that has provided us with opportunities, created traditions across generations, well-being, and food on the table.
They talked about the future, about values and dreams—and what beautiful thoughts were shared.
For the children, it emerged how important it is to get food from the sea, to be out in nature, that there are many animals, and to be able to sail and travel from place to place. But also, that people are happy and that those around them are doing well. These came first, ahead of earning money.
Regarding the future, they believe that Ilulissat will be a good place to live—a place where people are happy, feel well, and feel safe. They also think there will be more tall buildings and hotels, more noise, more buses, museums, and schools, but also that Ilulissat will be innovative and a positive role model for other places.
For the future, they hope for a swimming pool, a new sports hall, an amusement park, a shopping center, a Normal store, and “Danish” dogs. They also hope that nature will be cared for, and that there will be clean water. They hope for more opportunities in fishing, maybe even new forms of aquaculture.
